To be forever known/ Residual hauntings 2011
To be forever known was a sound installation in the dining room of the Bronte Paronsage Museum that breathed life into the static space, reinstating a sense of the creativity that once filled air of this house. Text drawn from Charlotte Bronte’s letters were read aloud in the room, then recorded and re-recorded until the words become unintelligible whispers and the resonant harmonies of the architecture itself are revealed. In the installation these eerie sounds of Charlotte’s own thoughts and feelings are played back in the space, haunting and jarring against the silence that exists.
Residual hauntings is a series of photographs of the artist ‘performing’ domestic rituals and actions described in written records of the sisters’. The ghostly vignettes reanimate the spaces of the Parsonage, recreating a sense of the movement that once filled the rooms.
